    Tadalafil: The Potent Solution for Erectile Dysfunction and Pulmonary Hypertension

    Tadalafil is a very essential drug for erectile dysfunction (ED) or pulmonary arterial hypertension. It is a phosphodiesterase-5 (PDE-5) inhibitor which causes reduction in endothelial cell proliferation, nerve activity, increased smooth muscle relaxation, and tissue perfusion of the prostate and bladder.

    What is Tadalafil?

    Tadalafil, commonly known as Cialis, is a PDE5 inhibitor used primarily for treating erectile dysfunction (ED) and pulmonary hypertension. It relaxes the smooth muscle blood vessels allowing more blood to flow to certain areas of the body.

    How Tadalafil Works

    Tadalafil commonly known as Cialis, is a PDE5 inhibitor used primarily for treating erectile dysfunction (ED) and pulmonary hypertension. It relaxes the smooth muscle of blood vessel walls allowing better circulation in certain areas of the body.

    Indications for Tadalafil Use

    ● Erectile Dysfunction: Tadalafil is used to treat ED in men by improving erectile function.

    ● Pulmonary Hypertension: It is used to treat high blood pressure in the lungs by relaxing blood vessels and reducing the heart’s workload.

    ● Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH): Tadalafil is also used to improve symptoms of BPH, such as narrow stream of urination and difficulty urination.

    Dosage and Administration

    Adult Dosage:

    ● For ED: 10 mg taken 30 minutes before sexual activity. The dose can be increased to 20 mg or decreased to 5 mg based on efficacy and side effects.

    ● For Pulmonary Hypertension: 40 mg once daily, usually in combination with other medications.

    Pediatric Dosage:

    ● Tadalafil is not recommended for individuals under 18 years.

    Side Effects of Tadalafil

    Common side effects include:

    ● Headache

    ● Indigestion

    ● Back pain

    ● Flushing

    Serious side effects include:

    ● Priapism (prolonged erection)

    ● Sudden vision or hearing loss

    ● Heart attack or stroke symptoms (rare).

    Pregnancy Category: Category B – Tadalafil is not recommended for use in women, and its safety during pregnancy is not well-established.
