    FAQs

What conditions does a psychiatrist treat?

Psychiatrists treat a wide range of mental health disorders including anxiety, depression, OCD, bipolar disorder, PTSD, schizophrenia, phobias, sleep disorders, eating disorders, and substance use or addiction problems.

When should I see a psychiatrist for anxiety or low mood?

If you’re experiencing persistent worry, restlessness, irritability, low energy, sleep problems, or feeling hopeless for over two weeks, you should consult a psychiatrist. These are early signs of Generalized Anxiety Disorder or Depression.

Why do I have body pain, stomach issues, or fatigue when all my tests are normal?

Unexplained symptoms like body pain, dizziness, stomach discomfort, or fatigue with normal reports may indicate somatoform or bodily distress disorder. A psychiatrist can help manage these symptoms with therapy and medications that address the mind-body link.

How are phobias and social anxiety treated?

Phobias and Social Anxiety Disorder are treated using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), exposure therapy, and sometimes anti-anxiety medications. With consistent treatment, patients can regain control over their fears and daily interactions.

Can sleep problems be related to mental health?

Yes. Insomnia, oversleeping, nightmares, or daytime fatigue can be symptoms of anxiety, depression, PTSD, or addiction. Psychiatrists evaluate sleep patterns and prescribe appropriate therapy or medication.

What are obsessive thoughts and how is OCD treated?

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) involves repetitive, intrusive thoughts and compulsive behaviors. Treatment includes SSRIs and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, especially Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP).

Is it possible to get addicted to psychiatric medications?

Most psychiatric medications like antidepressants or mood stabilizers are not addictive. Psychiatrists prescribe and monitor medication to ensure safety, especially in patients with a history of substance use.

Can I get a second opinion for my psychiatric diagnosis?

Yes. Second opinions are helpful for conditions like depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, or PTSD—especially before long-term medication. Dr. Eepsita Mishra provides expert second opinions via HealthPil teleconsultation.

What therapy options are available for PTSD and trauma?

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is treated using trauma-focused CBT, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), and medications. Dr. Eepsita tailors treatment based on the severity and nature of trauma.

Is online psychiatric consultation effective for mental health care?

Yes. Online consultation is highly effective for anxiety, OCD, depression, sleep disorders, and follow-ups. It offers privacy, convenience, and continuity of care for most mental health conditions.
