Syphilis Test – Diagnosing Syphilis Infection

● Negative result: No detectable antibodies, suggesting the absence of syphilis infection.

● Positive result: The presence of antibodies suggests syphilis infection, though further confirmatory testing may be needed to confirm the stage of infection.

Abnormal Test Significance:

● Positive test: Indicates that the person has syphilis. It may be early-stage syphilis, latent syphilis, or tertiary syphilis, depending on the clinical stage and other test results.

● False positives: Can occur in individuals with autoimmune diseases, pregnancy, or other infections, requiring further testing.

Management Based on Results:

● For positive syphilis results: Treatment involves penicillin, which effectively cures syphilis at any stage.

● For late-stage syphilis: Treatment may involve a longer course of penicillin and monitoring for complications.
