In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) Hormone Profile – Assessing Fertility for Assisted Reproductive Technology

The IVF Hormone Profile consists of several key hormone tests used to evaluate a woman’s fertility potential before undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF). Hormonal balance plays a crucial role in successful pregnancy outcomes, and this profile helps guide IVF treatment, optimizing the chances of success.

    Indications for IVF Hormone Profile:

    ● Infertility evaluation: To assess ovarian function, egg quality, and overall reproductive health in individuals undergoing IVF.

    ● Monitoring ovulation: To assess hormone levels before ovulation induction and egg retrieval.

    ● Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS): To evaluate hormone imbalances in women with PCOS, a common cause of infertility.

Tests Included in IVF Hormone Profile:

    1. Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH): FSH plays a role in ovarian follicle development. Elevated levels may suggest diminished ovarian reserve.

    2. Luteinizing Hormone (LH): LH triggers ovulation. A balance between FSH and LH is crucial for healthy ovulation.

    3. Estradiol (E2): A form of estrogen, important for the maturation of eggs and the thickening of the uterine lining.

    5. Progesterone (P4): This hormone prepares the uterine lining for implantation after ovulation or egg retrieval.

    6. Anti-Müllerian Hormone (AMH): A marker of ovarian reserve. Low AMH levels suggest a lower number of viable eggs.

    Normal Range:

    ● FSH: 4.7–21.5 mIU/mL (depending on the phase of the menstrual cycle).
    ● LH: 5–20 mIU/mL (during follicular phase).
    ● Estradiol: 25–75 pg/mL (in the early follicular phase).
    ● Progesterone: 0.5–1.5 ng/mL (pre-ovulation).
    ● AMH: 1–4 ng/mL (varies by age).

    Abnormal Test Significance:

    ● High FSH and Low AMH: Indicate reduced ovarian reserve and lower fertility potential.

    ● High LH/FSH ratio: Suggests PCOS, a common cause of infertility.

    ● Low estradiol: May indicate anovulation or poor egg quality.

    ● Low progesterone: Indicates a possible issue with luteal phase support, crucial for implantation.

    Management Based on Results:

    ● For low ovarian reserve: IVF with egg donor may be suggested, depending on the patient’s age and fertility goals.

    ● For PCOS: Treatment may involve clomiphene citrate or gonadotropins to stimulate ovulation before IVF.

    ● For hormonal imbalances: Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) and fertility medications may be used to optimize the IVF process.

    Price in India:

    ● Approx. ₹4,000 – ₹10,000 for a complete IVF hormone panel.

    FAQs

Why do I need an IVF hormone profile?

This profile helps assess your ovarian reserve, egg quality, and overall fertility, guiding treatment decisions for IVF.

How often should I do this test before IVF?

Hormonal testing is typically done in the early follicular phase of your menstrual cycle (day 3).

    Disclaimer:

The IVF hormone profile is part of a comprehensive fertility assessment. Results should be interpreted by a fertility specialist to guide treatment decisions.
