Ultracet (Acetaminophen + Tramadol): A Powerful Combination for Pain Relief
Ultracet is a combination medication that contains acetaminophen (a pain reliever and fever reducer) and tramadol (an opioid-like pain reliever). This combination relieves moderate to severe pain from injury, surgery, or chronic conditions like osteoarthritis.
Mechanism of Action
● Acetaminophen inhibits prostaglandin synthesis in the brain, helping reduce pain, and suppressing the hypothalamic heat-regulating centre to control fever. It also relieves pain by activating the descending serotonergic pathways.
● Tramadol binds to opioid receptors and also inhibits the reuptake of serotonin and norepinephrine, which helps in pain relief.
Together, these two medications offer enhanced pain relief, targeting both the neurological and inflammatorycomponents of pain.
