Ofloxacin: The Antibiotic for Bacterial Infections
What is Ofloxacin?
Ofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections, like urinary tract infections (UTIs), respiratory tract infections, and skin infections. It works by inhibiting DNA replication in bacteria, thereby preventing bacterial growth.
How Ofloxacin Works
Ofloxacin inhibits the bacterial enzyme DNA gyrase, which is required for DNA replication in bacteria. By blocking this enzyme, Ofloxacin prevents bacteria from multiplying and spreading.
