Lorazepam: The Benzodiazepine for Anxiety and Seizure Management
What is Lorazepam?
Lorazepam is a benzodiazepine used to manage anxiety, insomnia, and seizure disorders. It acts on the central nervous system and brings about a calming effect by enhancing the effects of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), a neurotransmitter that inhibits brain activity.
How Lorazepam Works
Lorazepam binds to specific sites on the GABA-A receptors, increasing the action of GABA. This calms down brain activity, helping to alleviate symptoms of anxiety, seizures, and insomnia.
