Teicoplanin: A Potent Antibiotic for Serious antibiotic resistant Infections like MRSA
Teicoplanin is a glycopeptide antibiotic used to treat serious bacterial infections, particularly those caused by gram-positive bacteria such as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). It works by inhibiting cell wall synthesis in bacteria, ultimately leading to their death.
Mechanism of Action
Teicoplanin binds to the D-alanyl-D-alanine portion of the bacterial cell wall precursor, preventing cell wall synthesis, which leads to bacterial lysis.
