Morphine: The Powerful Opioid for Pain Management
What is Morphine?
Morphine is a strong opioid analgesic used for the relief of moderate to severe pain. It is commonly prescribed for cancer pain, post-surgical pain, and severe injury. Morphine works by binding to opioid receptors in the brain and spinal cord to block pain signals.
How Morphine Works
Morphine is an opioid agonist that acts primarily on the mu-opioid receptors in the brain. This action alters the perception of pain, providing significant relief. It also has sedative effects and can induce feelings of euphoria.
